Domenico Criscito admits it’ll be “even more special returning to the Nazionale in Genoa” against Albania.

The Zenit defender has now been called in by Antonio Conte for Tuesday’s international friendly against Albania at Marassi.

“How wonderful to be back in the Nazionale and it’ll be even more special in Genoa, where I was born and raised as a player,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Criscito did not disguise his irritation at being left out of the World Cup squad by Cesare Prandelli this summer.

He was also dropped from the Euro 2012 group due to match-fixing allegations – although he was cleared soon after the tournament.

The 27-year-old has 22 senior caps for Italy, but his most recent appearance was in a 1-0 defeat to Spain on March 5 2014.

Criscito is from Naples, but grew up in the Genoa youth academy and largely remained there until his move to Zenit in July 2011.
