Former player Massimo Crippa advised Torino to sign ex-Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi. “They can challenge for a top four finish.”

The Granata were seventh in Serie A last season and entered the Europa League preliminary rounds thanks to Milan pulling out, but lost the play-offs to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“I really like Toro this year and they are certainly among the candidates for a Europa League spot,” Crippa – now Coach of Serie D side Renate – told Tuttosport.

“I really like Toro this year and they are certainly among the candidates for a Europa League spot,” Crippa – now Coach of Serie D side Renate – told Tuttosport.

“Unfortunately, the two legs against Wolves were a missed opportunity. With the arrival of Simone Verdi and return of Nicolas Nkoulou to defence, this is a Toro that can challenge for a top four finish.

“It certainly won’t be easy, and it all goes down to the details, but they’ve got everything it takes to go all the way.”

However, Crippa believes there is one signing in the January transfer window that would make all the difference.

“Torino really need someone to balance out the team in midfield and Nzonzi would be ideal.”

The 30-year-old France international is still owned by Roma, but joined Galatasaray on loan with option to buy for €16m.
