Hernan Crespo is blown away by Lautaro Martinez, “a potential champion and the present of Inter” in replacing Mauro Icardi.

The young striker made quite an impression during the Icardi absence, scoring regularly in Serie A and finding the net for Argentina in this week’s friendly against Venezuela.

“Lautaro is so good. He is still a little green, but very talented,” Argentina legend Crespo told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He does remarkable things and above all is in the right place at the right time. He has already learned about the Italian opposition defences, doesn’t let himself get intimidated, plays with courage and character.

“Don’t forget, he only started being a regular in the starting XI during the Icardi controversy, so that was not an easy time for the rest of the squad.”

There have been some comparisons between Lautaro Martinez and Crespo.

“Lautaro is not a centre-forward in the same way that I was, nor like Icardi, as he likes to move all across the front line and could comfortably be a second striker in a 4-4-2 formation.

“Right now, he is showing that it’s certainly not a problem toplay as a centre-forward. He adapted very well and sacrifices himself for the team.

“In my view, Lautaro is a potential champion and the present of Inter. My friend Juan Sebastian Veron speaks very highly of him, and Seba is rarely wrong when it comes to judging talent.”
