Former Milan striker Hernan Crespo said Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an ‘absolute phenomenon’, as the 40-year-old continues to impress in Serie A. ‘He’s at a different level’.

The Argentine praised the Swede, who turned 40 at the start of October, but continues to make a difference at Milan.

Zlatan scored the opening goal from a direct free kick in the 2-1 win over Roma on Sunday, his 400th in domestic leagues and 150th in the Italian top flight.

Crespo recalled the ‘champion’ already playing with him during their time at Inter, but stressed the ‘maturity’ he shows at Milan makes him a true leader.

“Ibrahimovic is an absolute phenomenon,” Crespo told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Being able to do what he does at 40, in the Italian championship, which is one of the most difficult in the world, is really incredible.

“In every match, even when he’s not brilliant, he always proves to be at a higher level than both his teammates and the opponents, he’s at a different level.

“When we played together at Inter, he was already a champion. But he didn’t have the maturity and ability to lead the team that I see at Milan today.

“Now, he’s a real beacon, his teammates just have to follow him to continue to grow and aim to win.”
