Giovanni Arvedi, the owner of Cremonese, was honest about the club’s struggles in Serie A this season, suggesting they ‘were not prepared’ for life in the Italian topflight.

The Grigiorossi earnt promotion to the topflight after securing a second place finish in Serie B last season, finishing just two points behind division winners Lecce.

Cremonese’s return to Serie A has not been positive and the team currently find themselves rock bottom of the league table with just 13 points, 11 behind 17th place Spezia. Things have been better in the Coppa Italia and the team will face Fiorentina in the semi-finals next month.

Speaking to Cremona1, Cremonese owner Arvedi opened up about the club’s difficult season in Serie A and what has been learnt.

“This year we’re not happy, but we’re aware that we’ve learned something. Honestly, we were not prepared to face Serie A, we didn’t know it. I, for what I can do, I deal with it often and gladly, but I admit that we were not structurally prepared.

“We are preparing with the coaches we have now, who are good, but they are insufficient. Serie A as far as I have seen it is a different matter, you make a huge leap from Serie B to Serie A in terms of organisation, but also in terms of the quality, stamina and experience of the players.

“We have lost some matches by giving up.”

Cremonese have picked up just one win in Serie A this season, less than their impressive Coppa Italia run. In both competitions, the Lombardy outfit secured victory against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
