Cremonese director Simone Giacchetta confirms they are interested in signing Eldor Shomurodov from Roma in January.

The newly-promoted side finished second in Serie B last season, but are yet to win a single Serie A game in the current campaign.

“We want to improve the attack, just like other areas, with different characteristics,” Giacchetta told reporters at a press conference.

Cremonese are in the relegation zone with just seven points from 15 rounds, scoring 11 goals and conceding 26.

He was asked specifically about their pursuit of Uzbekistan international forward Shomurodov and did not shy away from the issue.

“Shomurodov has certain very precise qualities. The important thing would be for him to come here with the right spirit and be ready to sacrifice himself, with everyone believing we can do it.

“Aside from the name of the player we bring in, it’s crucial that he is prepared and can be relied upon.”

The 27-year-old can play as a centre-forward or either flank in an attacking capacity.

He cost €18m plus bonuses to sign from Genoa in the summer of 2021, but this season made only eight appearances between Serie A and the Europa League, scoring one goal.

Only one of those eight games was from the start, as he played just 151 minutes of football in the current campaign.
