Cremonese confirm that coach Massimiliano Alvini has not been fired, despite failing to get a single victory and sitting bottom of the Serie A table.

“If you ask me if Alvini will leave, I can reply to you that tomorrow he will oversee the training session,” director of sport Simone Giacchetta told Cremona1.

“As a club, we evaluate everything, we are disappointed in the standings, because we did not expect it. Obviously, we expected to be in a different position, but we are not demoralised by the fact we haven’t won yet after 11 rounds.

“The performances on the field have been more than sufficient, so it’s just disappointing we didn’t bring home the points.”

The club was promoted from Serie B last summer in second place behind Lecce, but coach Fabio Pecchia decided to walk away for a new challenge.

Alvini was brought in and this is his first ever Serie A season.

Giacchetta was reassuring towards Alvini, but only up to a certain point.

“In football we take it one game at a time, one weekend at a time. We all live and die by our results and all know we have to improve.”

So far this term, Cremonese have managed only four draws and seven defeats in the Serie A campaign, losing 2-1 to Sampdoria in last night’s relegation dogfight.

At least they made it through to the Coppa Italia third round, where they will face Napoli on January 17.
