Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu believes the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo is “a coup” for Juventus.
The Bianconeri signed the current Ballon d’Or for €100m this summer, in a transfer which shocked the football world.
The Barça President sat down for an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, and of course the subject of CR7 came up.
“Let’s start with the Champions League,” Bartomeu said.
“Not least because we’ve been knocked out by Italian teams in the last two seasons, first Juventus and then Roma. Deservedly so.
“Who will win it? It’s balanced, apart from Juventus with Ronaldo no-one has made any sensational signings. No-one wanted to sell their best players, they looked at things in terms of sport rather than economics.
“Andrea Agnelli pulled off a coup. For me though it’s a sorry story because La Liga lost a star, the second in two years after Neymar.
“It’s negative for Spanish football, I’m not interested in the fact that Madrid might be weakened because we want the best football to be played. Only then can we compete with the Premier League, which is the richest.
“Ronaldo will not only improve Juventus, but all of Serie A. As for the Champions League, I have to say I agree with [Leo] Messi: Juventus are even more likely to win it with Ronaldo.”
