There were 34 deaths connected to COVID-19 in Italy over the last 24 hours and 210 new positive cases, but now under 200 remain in intensive care.

The numbers continue to drop on a day to day basis in the Peninsula, despite effectively ending the lockdown, with cinemas and theatres now open using social distancing measures.

The death toll since yesterday is 34, taking the total since the crisis began on February 20 to 34,405.

Just under half of all the deaths in the country – 16,466 – were in the Lombardy region.

There were another 210 positive cases over the last 24 hours out of 46,882 swabs, of which 143 were in Lombardy

The good news is that eight regions had zero positive tests and 18 regions had under 10.

For the first time, the number of patients in intensive care dropped below 200 to 177, as 30 were released.

There are now 3,301 people in hospital with COVID-19 (-188) and 21,091 self-isolating at home with minor symptoms (-1,122).
