Lombardy is the epicentre, as this region alone was responsible for 125 new positive tests out of 8,005 swabs and 21 of the 53 deaths.

Other than Lombardy no other region had at least 15 new cases since yesterday, with Puglia, Friuli, Sardinia, Calabria, Molise, Basilicata and Veneto registering zero.

There are now 35,262 currently active cases in the country, a drop of 615 compared to yesterday.

This is because 759 were given the all-clear, leaving 30,111 people in self-isolation at home, 4,864 in hospital and just 287 in intensive care (-6).

“We are out of the acute phase of the pandemic. Now we are in the era of living with Coronavirus,” said vice-minister for health Pierpaolo Sileri on Sky Italia.
