Arsenal have been extensively scouting Victor Osimhen but is the Napoli forward the right man to lead Mikel Arteta’s attack?

The 23-year-old Nigerian has netted 11 times in 20 Serie A appearances this season, being the leading man of Luciano Spalletti’s squad as Lorenzo Insigne slowly fades out of the picture. Despite his young age, he is proving to be a mature and clinical forward, becoming a fan favourite in the Campania capital.

Osimhen is a classic number nine, being a physically imposing and athletically gifted forward who has a lovely first touch which often allows him to beat defenders with a single movement. He primarily plays around the penalty area but this doesn’t mean he shrugs off defensive responsibility, as his strong pressing ability often puts the first line of defence under significant pressure.

Recent reports state that Arsenal are keeping a close eye on Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window, with the North London side desperate for attacking reinforcements. They face a slight uphill battle trying to pry him away from Napoli, however, as president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not an easy man to negotiate with.

Napoli paid Lille €75m for Osimhen back in September 2020, so it’s unlikely that they’d be willing to let him leave for anything less than €100m, which seems like a fairly low estimate considering that his current contract expires in 2025.

Whilst Osimhen does seem a little out-of-reach this summer for Arsenal, he could become a star in North London in the next couple of years, so it seems that Arteta will have to look elsewhere for now.

  1. it seems a bit strange to talk about a English side on a site for Italian football.

never the less yes he would be a effective option for arsenal in fact a fair few strikers would be a better alternative for arsenal than laccazette at the moment you would add lewin, gouri, david, nunez, schick, andre silva, adeyami, dembele to that list too hell even toney could be a reasonable option. will arsenal sign him who knows first of all they need to make the champions league to attract a player of his ability secondly i would argue that arsenal made a quite significant investment in the team last summer it would be questionable whether owners who are fugal at the best of times would spend upwards of 60 million quid on one player. I would also point out it wouldn’t match the transfer policy of arsenal of late they went for solid talented players not ones who are coveted as the future superstars of the game. lastly arsenal are still a team who are in recovery mode and probably will be for the next couple of years it would seem quite believable that osimhen would wait at least a season for a bigger move.

  2. This site is getting more and more like an epl site nowadays.

Tomorrow we’ll find out what colour laces the Tottenham players prefer in their boots.

Unlikely Osimhen would go to Arsenal anyway.
