With Milan linked to Chelsea defender Malang Sarr recently, could the 22-year-old follow a similar path to former Blues man Fikayo Tomori?
The Rossoneri are looking to sign a new centre-back in the transfer window next month following the long-term injury to Simon Kjaer and Sarr could be signed in the hopes of repeating the success of the Tomori deal.
The French centre-back has hardly featured under coach Thomas Tuchel this season, only making one Premier League appearance, and so it seems likely that he’ll be sent out on loan next month.
Milan signed Tomori on a six-month loan deal with a €28.8m buy option attached in January of this year and he quickly carved out a place for himself in the squad, despite only making one league appearance for Chelsea in the first half of last season.
His performances impressed the Rossoneri enough to activate that buy option and he’s gone on to become one of their most important players, making 15 league appearances already this campaign, which has seen his market value skyrocket.
Sarr could follow a similar path to Tomori if he signs for Milan on loan next month. Both players are talented and young defenders who are tactically malleable, and both struggled to break into a world class Chelsea squad.
Should the 22-year-old Frenchman sign for the Rossoneri, he would likely be given consistent playing time partnered alongside Tomori, especially considering the fact that Alessio Romagnoli’s contract is set to expire next year.
There is a chance, however, that Chelsea have learnt their lesson following the departure of the 23-year-old Englishman in the summer, and so they may not include a buy option in a loan deal.
Of course he can.
Paolo Maldini loves certain French players over Italian ones so the fit is perfect.
Who know, nobody knows Tomori in January and here we are…
