According to multiple reports in Italy, Alessandro Costacurta’s mother, Margherita Beccegato, died in a car accident today.

Costacurta, 55, is one of Italy’s best-ever defenders, having played 59 games with the Azzurri at a senior level.

He retired from football in 2007 after having played 663 of his 694 career games with Milan.
