Former defender Alessandro Costacurta noted that Nicolo Zaniolo could ‘give Milan a big hand’ but also felt that Roma’s requests are too high.

The 23-year-old Italian forward has grown unhappy in the Italian capital this season and asked the club for a move away this month. Milan were seriously interested in signing Zaniolo but decided to move away after Bournemouth emerged with an offer worth over €35m.

Roma made it clear that they would only accept a definitive deal for Zaniolo, either a loan with an obligation to buy or an outright sale.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Costacurta gave his thoughts on the Zaniolo situation and what he could’ve given to Milan.

“I believe that from a technical aspect the demad for Zaniolo is too high. The boy has potential, but results must also be shown on the pitch.

“He hasn’t lived up to expectations this year. If he returned to being the player we all saw on a few occasions, he could give Milan a big hand.”

Zaniolo wanted to join Milan but is now reconsidering Bournemouth’s offer following the Rossoneri’s withdrawal.

The 23-year-old Italian has scored two goals and provided three assists across 17 appearances this season for Roma, struggling to impress Jose Mourinho or the fans.
