Sky Sport Italia claim Milan have made significant steps forward in their pursuit of Chelsea striker Diego Costa, despite Atletico Madrid interest.

While the forward has made it clear his first choice would be a return to Madrid, the club cannot make any new signings until January due to a transfer embargo.

According to Sky Sport Italia this evening, Costa has now opened the door to joining the Rossoneri instead.

This is largely thanks to the intervention of agent Jorge Mendes, who has been working closely with Milan’s new directors this summer.

However, they do not want Costa to arrive on loan or be waiting until he can make the move to Atletico Madrid.

With difficulties targeting €100m Andrea Belotti of Torino and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Rossoneri are turning towards Costa to bring steel to their attack.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte informed the 28-year-old via text message that he was no longer in his plans for this season.
