Serse Cosmi has defended Rafa Benitez and believes Napoli’s issues may lie in a lack of competitive hunger.
The Partenopei and their tactician have come under early season fire for a premature exit from the Champions League and then defeat to Chievo in their first home match of the Serie A season.
For one Serie A and Serie B regular tactician, putting the blame on the bench is not accurate.
“Do not blame him,” former Udinese, Lecce and Palermo boss Cosmi has commented in today’s edition of Il Mattino.

“I do not believe that the different ways of working from the Spaniard do not suit our League. He has his methods and must not betray his philosophy of playing for our habits.
“Perhaps the team is lacking a bit of competitive fight, yes, but Napoli is the same as last season, where they went far.
“If we compare their hunger for victories with that of Juventus, then there is no race – in this respect, in the last three season, there has been a gulf between Juventus and the other teams.
“Put it this way, the players most representative of the team are away from their usual performance level – this is worrying.
“When the likes of Hamsik, Higuain, Callejon, Albiol and Insigne return to their best, Napoli will continue to fly.”
