Serse Cosmi has thanked Siena for giving him the chance to Coach in Serie A again from the very start of a season.

The 54-year-old cap-wearing tactician has been parachuted in to his last four jobs, taking posts at Brescia, Livorno, Palermo and Lecce only after their respective seasons had begun.

In accepting the Siena post this week, the Perugia-born Coach began with a message of gratitude and relief to start in Serie A from Week 1, for the first time in seven years.

“This is a very nice day for me, I finally have the chance to return to being a Coach from the start of the season,” he told the assembled media at his unveiling.

“It has been my privilege in an 18-year career that several times I have been called in to take over a club midseason, but it is definitely not ideal for any Coach.

“Today I am happy for this choice, for which I thank President Mezzaroma and director Antonelli who have believed in me and I hope I can repay their trust.

“Siena has for many years been in Serie A, with just one term in B, and they have always proven to have the right ambition and the awareness and strength to compete at the highest level.

“Now I just want to get started. With the players I will first ask of them all to acknowledge that we will face a difficult season ahead.

“If we have this awareness and if we can overcome the challenges then it will be even better when we reach our goal.

“For the fans I will not make any promises, because those pronounced in the summer are always simple and good.

“One of my goals has always been for fans to identify themselves in their team, to mirror their passion. I would, therefore, like this identity to come through with what I ask of my players.

“Only by staying together as a team, club, fans and Press, can we overcome the difficult challenges ahead.”
