Serse Cosmi said Crotone approached the match against Lazio with ‘too much fear’ but left the Olimpico ‘embittered’ after a narrow 3-2 defeat.

The Rossoblu arrived from a 4-2 win over Torino and Cosmi, who was suspended and sat in the stands for the third game since he took over, said the first goal conceded against Lazio was ‘avoidable’, before he saw his men bounce back twice through a brace from Simy.

“We started with too much fear,” Cosmi told Sky Sport Italia after the match. “We conceded an avoidable goal despite [Sergej] Milinkovic-Savic’s beautiful finish.

“The ball was readable, a five-man defence should not have conceded that goal.

“In the difficult moment, Simy equalised, and we gained confidence.

“The second goal was a good finish by Luis Alberto, but against these teams you can’t concede in this way.

“After the second equaliser, I didn’t see much, the match was heading for a draw. I didn’t see any particular danger.

“We are embittered, the regret is there.”

Substitute Andrea Rispoli was close to scoring his first for Crotone, but the away sides third effort on target was stopped by goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

“On the pitch there are opponents and a great goalkeeper,” Cosmi said. “He [Rispoli] deserved to score only for [Adam] Ounas’ pass.

“But I don’t think the game should be reduced to that chance.”
