Fiorentina are “optimistic” after reinforcing the squad this summer, said technical director Pantaleo Corvino.
The Viola saw their Serie A season opener against Sampdoria postponed to September 19 due to the tragic collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa.
That means their debut will now be this weekend against Chievo at the Stadio Franchi.
“Fiorentina begin the season with the pain for the loss of our captain, Davide Astori, still very much present,” Corvino told Sky Sport Italia.

“On the other hand, we are the youngest squad in Serie A, built from the era that began last season also with Davide.
“We are optimistic, as the club owners made a real effort to keep the best players and improve the squad with new arrivals. This gives us hope for both the present and the future.
“I hope it’s a stronger Fiorentina than last term, hungrier and more determined. We’ll step on to that field also to repay the efforts of the city and the owners.”
