The youngster has been identified as one for the future in Italy and has attracted interest from some of the top clubs in Europe after his breakthrough season with the Viola.

In Serie A, Inter are among the sides looking to make a deal with the Viola but Corvino suggests he would be perfect for the Nerazzurri, who have also been linked with Barcelona star Arturo Vidal.

“In a midfield trident, he will be ideal in the middle for [Inter coach Antonio] Conte,” he told Tuttosport. “They are different, Arturo rushes the play and plays with determination, while the insertions are more natural for Gaetano.

“One plays more aggressive, the other is more elegant. We are, however, talking about two great players who play the role in the middle.”

The former sporting director was the one who brought Castrovilli to the Artemio Franchi from Bari and reveals his “relationship” with director of football Luca Sogliano and former President Gianluca Paparesta.

“I’m from Lecce, he’s from Bari, and for some time there was talk of Gaetano as a boy with great potential,” he revealed. “I managed to close the deal, given that several clubs had tried to get him, because of the relationship I had with Sogliano and Paparesta.

“I managed to bring him to Florence, where he started playing for the youth team.”

But Corvino revealed that Castrovilli wasn’t ready to take the step already last season, something that led to a loan deal with Cremonese.

“At the end of that season [his first with the youth team at Fiorentina], we had to make a choice,” he revealed. “Gaetano was too old to play for the Primavera but still too young to take the step up to the first team.

“We decided to send him on loan to Cremona. His biggest quality was his skills, but at the beginning he was lacking some coordination. I often called him to encourage him to work on that aspect and he did well in correcting it.”

The price tag suggested in the media for Castrovilli has been set at €40m this summer, but Corvino laughed at the idea and said: “€40m for Castrovilli? Yeah, but only for one leg!”
