Il Corriere dello Sport points out Cristiano Ronaldo and Victor Osimhen were treated differently as the Napoli striker was sent off for a supposed punch on a Venezia player, while the former Juventus star escaped a red card for a similar incident.

Osimhen was shown a red card and suspended for two Serie A games for a supposed punch on Daan Heymans during Napoli’s opening Serie A game against Venezia.

The Nigeria international seemed to shove his defender away, but in so doing, he turned and caught Heymans on the throat with a fist. The referee opted for a red card and VAR didn’t intervene.

He got a two-match ban, but Napoli lodged an appeal, hoping the player will be allowed to play against Juventus after the international break.

And during the international break, Ronaldo was involved in a similar incident in Portugal’s 1-1 draw against Ireland.

The former Bianconeri star appeared to slap Dara O’Shea, who had kicked the ball away while the 36-year-old was waiting to take a penalty kick with Portugal down 1-0.

Italy referee Paolo Valeri was in charge of VAR but didn’t consider Ronaldo’s action worthy of a red card or, at least, an on-field review.

The Manchester United star eventually missed the penalty but scored a late brace becoming the most prolific international goalscorer with 111 goals.

  1. Yeah Serie A is 2 steps away from becoming similar to the Polish top flite, well done you corrupt cannolis.

  2. 100% red card. Also. Stoppage time was 5 minutes. Ronaldo scored the second goal 21 seconds over the allocated time. At 5 minutes played, nothing was happening with the ball in the centre circle. Perfect time for the referee to blown the whistle, but the crook was desperate to give Portugal another attack.

  3. @rosario, talking sense as usual. Definite red card. Ireland should also have had a penalty in the 2nd half but Ronaldo must be placated apparently. Ref obviously a huge fan.

  4. @DB Milan

Was the Portugal penalty a penalty? It 100% was not. I watched it again and again and Hendrick got the ball. The Portuguese player has gone over pretending to have been shot, but it was an excellent tackle by Hendrick and and you can see it from the direction of where the ball goes post touching it. Never ever a penalty.

  5. @Pietraroia, Really, if my memory serves me the Euro trophy belongs to Italy, where most of the players compete and this is a qualifying match with nothing to do with Serie A.
As far a the Cannolis comment, better a corrupt cannoli then a blustering Pietraroia and Osimhen can take care of himself.

  6. Everyone talking about Ronaldo, but nobody talks about the other half of the story. What Osimhen did wad dumb, not a straight red. I’ve seen this kind of thing many times and often it’s not even a card. The intent was to push the player away and Osimhen happened to put his hands up near the player’s head. It was not a swinging punch. I hope that the appeal at least results in the reduction of the ban to one game. Juventus already getting gifts from referees. It’s only going to get worse as they drop more points.

  7. @rosario Agreed. Another shocking decision and after he took 5 mins to look at it over and over.

  8. Better quit If you hate it! Beside I’m not surprise about Rosario complains, cause last minutes goal hurt asf. & cr7 is the mongster. He just hurt you guys I feel y’all.🙉🙉🙉…

  9. @Rosario,it’s only your tv that shw it wasn’t a foul or penalty.only u alone, are u a rugby player?
