The former Italy international and wife Elena Santarelli announced in November 2017 that their son Giacomo had been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour.
Santarelli announced via Instagram that their son, who turns 10 in July, had been given the all-clear and was now in the ‘follow-up’ stage of treatment.
