There are concerns in Italy, as the number of deaths from coronavirus has risen again by 602 over the last 24 hours, so 21,067 have died, but 37,130 have recovered.

It was hoped that the flattening of the curve regarding new cases, intensive care admissions and deaths would continue to bring the overall figures down day by day.

Instead, there has been a jump over the last two days in terms of people succumbing to the disease.

On Monday, the total death toll was 20,465, but it has now jumped 602 to 21,067.

Lombardy remains the epicentre, with 241 deaths in the region over the last 24 hours.

The good news is the continuing increase in recoveries, with decrease in patients who require intensive care to 3,186 (a drop of 74).

A further 1,695 have been given the all-clear over the last 24 hours.

Another 2,972 tested positive since yesterday, taking the total since the crisis began to 162,488.

Over 1,000,000 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Italy in just over a month, with 26,779 over 24 hours.

There are now 28,011 people in hospital with symptoms, 73,094 self-isolating at home and 104,291 currently suffering from coronavirus.
