There were 525 deaths in Italy from coronavirus over the last 24 hours, with 231 of them in the Lombardy region, but intensive care and hospital admissions are plummeting.

The death toll remains high in the country and has now reached 22,170, but the statistics show the curve is certainly flattening.

This means the number of new cases, intensive care admissions and patients in hospital are dropping both quickly and consistently, taking pressure off the overwhelmed healthcare system.

This means the number of new cases, intensive care admissions and patients in hospital are dropping both quickly and consistently, taking pressure off the overwhelmed healthcare system.

Since yesterday, 143 people have left intensive care, for a new total of 29,829 in hospital with symptoms (-893), of which 2,936 are currently in the ICU.

There are 76,778 people self-isolating at home with only minor symptoms.

Another 1,189 tested positive, so there are currently 106,607 people suffering from COVID-19.

However, 40,164 have been given the all-clear since the crisis began in Italy, with another 2,072 discharged since Wednesday.

Over the last 24 hours, a record 60,999 tests were performed.
