Gossip columnist Fabrizio Corona has been put under investigation by the Milan Prosecutor for suspected defamation based on libel suits filed by Stephan El Shaarawy and Nicolò Casale’s lawyers.
Corona has been sued by representatives of the two Serie A players who had been mentioned among those involved in a betting scandal in Italy.
Corona named El Shaarawy and Casale in his latest interview with Striscia La Notizia last week. Lawyers of the Roma striker and the Lazio defender had claimed they would take legal action against Corona.
The ex ‘King of Paparazzi’ was the first to reveal Nicolò Fagioli, Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli were investigated by the FIGC and Turin Prosecutors in a betting scandal.
El Shaarawy and Casale are not under investigation, so their lawyers have now taken legal action against Corona, reports Italian press agency Ansa.
El Shaarawy broke into tears after scoring a late winner in Roma’s win over Monza on Sunday.
“It did hurt because it hurts when things are said about you that are not true, even if your conscience is clear,” said the Italy international.
