Chievo Coach Eugenio Corini regrets wasted chances and incidents that handed Milan a 2-0 victory.
“The sensation was that in the first half we were in control, always good on the second ball and created some dangerous situations,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“Unfortunately we conceded a goal on a poor clearance, then had several chances to equalise only to let in the second from a free kick.
“It’s a shame to lose 2-0 after a performance like that at San Siro, but we have to go forward. We lost because of two incidents.”
Chievo could’ve had a penalty early on when Alex trod on Maxi Lopez’s foot, but the contact was only visible from some angles.
“I was a player for many years and a Coach for a while. I know a penalty can be given or not given, so it was a clear foul, but that’s not the point.
“What irritates me is when referees say they will penalise tactical fouls, help the game flow and then act differently from one team to the next. There’s little consistency. When de Jong was booked the referee should’ve let play continue, as we were clear on goal.”
Chievo wasted some golden opportunities, including a three-against-one counter-attack with Dejan Lazarevic.
“In the last few games we have dropped some points and paid a heavy price for our mistakes. Unfortunately we are giving away too much and must learn to be more determined in these situations.
“In a way that should give us confidence, as I’d be more worried if I saw a team that didn’t play good football, create chances and make life difficult for our opponents.”
