Eugenio Corini admits he experienced promotion as a player, but “it’s even more emotional as a Coach” after leading Brescia to Serie A.

Corini had not even started the season on the Brescia bench, as former Cagliari and Honduras striker David Suazo was appointed, but lasted only three rounds under President Massimo Cellino.

Today, the Rondinelle secured their place in Serie A with two rounds to spare thanks to a 1-0 victory over Ascoli, their first top flight campaign since 2011.

“Anyone who has experienced promotion as a player knows that it is fantastic. As a Coach, it’s even more emotional, because you feel more responsibility,” Corini told DAZN.

“It is an extraordinary achievement for me and I must thank my President, as I gave all I had to repay his faith in me. I thank my splendid players and collaborators. It was a complicated season, but the fans deserved this promotion.

“I really didn’t believe we’d do it when I arrived. I knew that we had a good team and could do some fine work, but towards Christmas we realised that we could have a great season, finding consistency week after week.”
