Luiz Adriano scored on his competitive Milan debut, while Davide Lanzafame saw red for Perugia.

This was Sinisa Mihajlovic’s first competitive match on the Rossoneri bench, and the Serbian named a strong side to face Perugia.

New signings Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano started in attack, with €25m-man Alessio Romagnoli partnering Rodrigo Ely in the centre of defence.

Keisuke Honda had the first chance of the match, Antonio Rosati doing well to turn his effort over the bar after Luiz Adriano’s intelligent cut-back.

It was the same combination which allowed the home side to make the breakthrough. Luca Antonelli played the ball inside after a storming run, and Adriano simply stepped over it.

Honda picked up the ball, strolled between the bemused Perugia defenders and slotted into the corner for the first official goal of the new season.

The Diavolo were in no mood to sit on their lead. Rosati was alert to palm away a Honda free-kick, before Nigel De Jong sent an effort past the post from range.

Honda and Luiz Adriano appear to have struck up a real understanding already, and combined again for their side’s second goal.

Carlos Bacca’s backheel found the Japanese international, who released Luiz Adriano, and the Brazilian guided a left-footed shot across Rosati and into the net.

Antonelli then should have put the match beyond doubt, firing straight at the goalkeeper when played through, though there was a suspicion of offside.

The Rossoneri thought they had made it 3-0 five minutes before halftime. Luiz Adriano took a wonderful touch in the box, before laying it back to Mattia De Sciglio.

The full-back cut it back for Bacca, who rifled a glorious shot into the top corner, but his strike partner was offside when he received the initial pass.

The second half began with Perugia making some threatening moves, Davide Lanzafame firing high and wide after dribbling into the Milan box.

At the other end, Antonelli’s goal-bound shot was deflected over the bar for a corner with 60 minutes on the clock.

Any hopes of a Perugia comeback were dashed five minutes later, when Lanzafame saw red, picking up a second yellow card for tripping Andrea Bertolacci.

Fortunately for the Serie B side, Mihajlovic’s men didn’t seem overly interested in adding to their tally, knocking the ball around midfield for the next 15 minutes.

Luiz Adriano’s last action of the match was to injure Rosati, the goalkeeper coming off the worse and hurting his ankle in a 50-50 challenge.

The striker was then withdrawn for Alessio Cerci, who entered the field to whistles, but with Perugia having made all of their substitutions, Rosati continued despite obvious discomfort.

Thankfully for the 'keeper, Milan didn't seem keen to test him, seeing out time for a comfortable first win of the season.
