Max Allegri made several changes, although he missed Mario Mandzukic, Juan Cuadrado, Andrea Barzagli and Joao Cancelo, with Medhi Benatia and Daniele Rugani suffering muscular issues on the day. Leonardo Spinazzola finally had his first start for Juve after numerous injury problems. The hosts had to do without suspended Andrea Poli, so threw new buys Nicola Sansone and Roberto Soriano into the starting XI for their debuts.

Bologna literally gifted the opening goal to Juventus, as Angelo Da Costa came off his line to fumble Mattia De Sciglio’s long ball, collide with teammate Arturo Calabresi and leave an open goal for Federico Bernardeschi to score into.

Mattia Destro had a shot charged down and Emre Can drilled just wide, but when Bologna did find themselves in great positions, Mattias Svanberg horribly scuffed the finish.

Mitchell Dijks did even worse, turning wide at the back post after a deflected cross reached him unmarked on the stroke of half-time.

Juventus were not so wasteful, as Douglas Costa’s attempt took a deflection and Kean pounced on the rebound from seven yards. Bologna bring the teenager luck, as he scored his debut Serie A goal at the Dall’Ara in May 2017.

The Bianconeri sat back and allowed Bologna to keep possession for much of the second half, safe in the knowledge they were making no real impact.
