Inter beat Milan 3-0 in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semis and are the first finalist in the tournament. Here are the player ratings from the Stadio Meazza.

Handanovic 6.5 – A decisive save on Leao, seconds before Lautaro’s second goal. Probably not pretty, but surely handy.

Skriniar 7 – Never left Giroud alone. The French striker will probably see the Inter defender in his nightmares tonight.

De Vrij 7 – Helped Skriniar to nullify Giroud who never had a real chance to score.

Bastoni 7 – Not an average centre-back. The Italy international was Inzaghi’s hidden weapon in the build-up. A key figure in Inter’s tactics this term. Another great performance tonight. (78’ D’Ambrosio N/G)

Darmian 7.5 – Surprisingly, he started in place of Dumfries, but it turned out to be a wise choice from Inzaghi as the Italy international provided balance on the right and pushed forward when needed. Assisted Lautaro for the opener.

Barella 7 – Getting back in shape after a dark start to the year when he was frankly exhausted. Still had some highs and lows, but overall it was a positive performance.

Brozovic 8 – Best Inter midfielder, it’s not difficult to understand why the Nerazzurri depend so much on him. He did everything in the middle of the park. Unstoppable.

Chalanoglu 7 – Booed by his former fans, the Turkey international got Inter functioning, although he was a bit sloppy at times. (73’ Vidal N/G)

Perisic 8 – Inter’s best player after Lautaro. Cleared the ball off the line in the first half and was always a threat when moving forward. An added value and one of the best Inter players this season. (78’ Gosens 7 – Closed the game at minute 82 with his first goal in a Nerazzurri shirt.)

Lautaro 9 – Absolutely on fire. Perfectly in sync with Correa. Scored the first one with a fantastic volley after just a few minutes and made it two before the break making the most of a perfect assist from his compatriot. (70’ Dzeko 6)

Correa 8 – Inzaghi threw him into the starting XI and the Argentinean did not disappoint. Offered the assist for Lautaro and was often dangerous in one vs. one situations. (70’ Alexis Sanchez 6)

Coach 8 – Inzaghi Prepared the game perfectly. Surprised Milan by starting Correa in place of Dzeko and Lautaro’s early goal made things easier for him. Milan’s disallowed goal is debatable, but overall, Inter deserved to win.

Coppa Italia | Inter 3-0 Milan: Lautaro seals Derby and books Final ticket

Milan

Maignan 6 – Nothing he could do to avoid Lautaro’s two goals. Perfect with the ball at his feet.

Calabria 5.5 – Wasn’t fully fit but gritted his teeth. Caught out of position at times and wasn’t always convincing defensively. (73’ Gabbia N/G).

Kalulu 5 – Struggled to cope with Inter’s dynamic attacking duo.

Tomori 5 – Same as his defensive partner, plus wasn’t composed on the ball. This derby won’t be remembered as one of his best performances in a Rossoneri shirt.

Theo Hernandez 6.5 – One of Milan’s most dangerous players. The Rossoneri always caused trouble for Inter when the Frenchman burst in from the left.

Tonali 4 – One of his worst performances this season. He almost looked like the Tonali of 2020-21. He was too slow and unable to help his team in the build up. No surprised he was subbed off during the break (46 Brahim Diaz 6 – The Spaniard gave more unpredictability to the Rossoneri, but it wasn’t enough for the Rossoneri.)

Bennacer 5 – Another unrecognizable player in the middle of the pitch for Milan. Lost possession too often, also when he wasn’t exactly under pressure. Scored a goal in the second half, but was disallowed for offside after a VAR check. (73’ Krunic N/G)

Saelemaekers 5 – Had a decent chance in the first half, but Handanovic pulled off a save to prevent Milan’s equalizer. Didn’t offer much more in the remainder of the first half. (46 Messias 4.5 – Wasn’t more dangerous than his teammate.)

Kessié 4 – Another bad performance from the Ivory Coast international. First as an attacking midfielder and then in his natural position in the middle of the park. Doesn’t seem to have his mind set on Milan.

Leao 5 – Tends to disappear too many times during a game. Was never consistent tonight. Almost hid behind Darmian. Milan need more from him. (85 Lazetic N/G)

Giroud 5 – Had a tough night, failed to replicate the brace that sent the Diavoli to paradise in February. Never squeezed past Skriniar or De Vrij, but there’s a feeling he was left alone up there to fight against two of the best defenders in the league.

Coach: Pioli 5.5 – This time Inter fans sang ‘Pioli is on fire.’ The feeling is that his side can’t offer more than this at the moment. It would have been a different game if Bennacer’s goal had stood, but the Rossoneri need to be more clinical up front.

  1. I don’t see how the Milan ‘goal’ would have changed anything, nor can I envision a world where it should have been allowed to stand.
