Monza won a remarkable five-goal thriller away to Udinese and will play Juventus in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, Parma defeated Bari to set up a clash with Inter, while Spezia saw off Brescia to earn Atalanta.
The Coppa Italia continued this evening and it is the final round before the big guns enter the fray in January 2023.
It was a real thriller at the Dacia Arena between Udinese and Monza, both of whom are on sparkling current form in Serie A.
Bram Nuytinck performed a goal-line clearance on Nicolò Rovella and a Monza penalty was revoked when VAR showed it was outside the box, but they did take the lead just before half-time with a deflected long-range Mattia Valoti scorcher.
Nehuen Perez turned it around for Udinese with a tap-in and nodding in Roberto Pereyra’s cross.
However, Monza pulled another switch with Salvatore Molina from close range and then Andrea Petagna having slalomed through defenders.
Therefore, Monza will face Juventus in the Round of 16, having famously earned their first ever Serie A victory against the Bianconeri on the debut of new coach Raffaele Palladino.
Parma and Bari are currently battling for promotion from Serie B, but the Ducali came out on top in this head-to-head with a 1-0 result at the Stadio Tardini decided by striker Adrian Benedyczak’s header.
It means Parma will play Inter in the Round of 16 in January 2023.
Spezia made relatively short work of Serie B side Brescia with a 3-1 victory, as David Strelec bagged a brace around the Daniele Verde effort from the edge of the box.
Stefano Moreo got a consolation goal late on, but it is Spezia who will face Atalanta.
