Gleison Bremer made the most of a Luis Maximiano error to give Juventus victory over Lazio and book their Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter.

That tie will be played over two legs in April, while the other semi-final is between Fiorentina and Cremonese. It is effectively a replay of last season’s finals of both the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana, won by Inter in extra time.

The Bianconeri were eager to get back on track after a surprise Serie A defeat to Monza and their 15-point penalty, but Arkadiusz Milik, Leonardo Bonucci, Paul Pogba and Kaio Jorge were still out of action. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa started for the first time in their Juve careers. The Aquile rested Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and had Ciro Immobile back from a thigh problem.

Mattia Zaccagni flashed a shot across the face of goal, but Filip Kostic went even closer, forcing a fingertip save from Luis Maximiano.

Adrien Rabiot wasted a golden opportunity when he was allowed a completely free header on 27 minutes only to turn it straight at the goalkeeper.

Felipe Anderson drilled wide, but Juventus broke through on the stroke of half-time. After a corner, Kostic put a cross back in from the right and Luis Maximiano completely mis-timed his interception, allowing Gleison Bremer to nod in.

Danilo Cataldi’s free kick did not trouble Mattia Perin and a Luis Alberto strike was deflected over, as Lazio pinned Juve back into their own half for long periods.

However, the hosts still threatened on the counter, Moise Kean blasting straight at Luis Maximiano, while Adam Marusic drilled just wide from the edge of the area and Manuel Locatelli charged down both the Toma Basic attempt and Marcos Antonio volley.

Juventus 1-0 Lazio

Bremer 44 (J)
