Empoli won an eventful six-goal thriller against Vicenza and Patrick Cutrone saw his debut goal chalked offside, as they set up a Coppa Italia tie against Verona.

The Tuscans, who won the Serie B title last season to earn promotion, and had a strong start to this game, surging into a 3-0 lead.

Filippo Bandinelli provided assists for both Nedim Bajrami and Nicolas Haas goals, then his shot was parried into the path of Leonardo Mancuso for the third.

Vicenza mounted a strong comeback, getting to 3-2 with Nicola Dalmonte scoring one and assisting Davide Lanzafame.

Former Wolves striker Cutrone made his debut for Empoli and did find the back of the net, but the goal was ruled offside.

Giovanni Crociata’s free kick into the top corner sealed the 4-2 result.
