Italian sources claim José Mourinho’s Roma future is uncertain after Wednesday’s loss against Lazio in a Coppa Italia derby.

Mourinho’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expires at the end of the season and the Special One hasn’t yet discussed a new deal with Roma owners.

Tiago Pinto will be leaving the club in February and while the Giallorossi are choosing their next sporting director, Mourinho must prove he will be the right man for the job in 2024-25.

Friday’s printed edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (page 12) claims Mourinho’s stay in the capital is unlikely at this stage as club owners will not open contract extension talks soon.

The pink paper highlights that, for the first time since his appointment in 2021, some Roma fans criticised the Special One on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday with the hashtag #Mourinhoout.

Roma sit eighth in the Serie A table, four points below Fiorentina in fourth and have earned eight points less than last season after 19 league rounds. It is their worst result in the Girone d’Andata – the first half of the season – since 2004-05, when the Giallorossi changed four coaches.

Mourinho has recently claimed that he expects a contract extension offer by February, but under current circumstances, it is unlikely that the Friedkin family will sit down with the Portuguese coach so early.

Roma owners expect a Champions League qualification this season, but Tuttosport and Gazzetta confirm that Mourinho won’t wait until May for a new contract offer.
