Contract renewal talks between Rafael Leao and Milan have stalled following the club’s latest offer, reports highlight.
Coach Stefano Pioli raised eyebrows when he left the 23-year-old Portugese star on the bench for the Rossoneri’s league clash with Sassuolo. The player came on in the second half but failed to make an impact as the Neroverdi stormed to a historic 5-2 victory.
As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, no progress has been made in the talks between Leao and Milan following the club’s latest offer of a €7m net per season salary.
One issue is Leao’s infamous debt with Sporting Lisbon, but also the Rossoneri’s run of poor form. Milan cannot afford to miss out on the Champions League if they want to tie down the star forward to a new deal, putting the pressure on after a slow start to 2023.
The two parties will meet again in the coming weeks and Milan are hoping for things to turn around on the pitch to help facilitate an agreement.
