Pressure is mounting on Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici as Spurs seem on the verge of missing out on the second transfer target in two days.

According to The Athletic, Luis Diaz is close to joining Liverpool from Porto in a €60m deal including add-ons.

Tottenham had reportedly pounced on the 25-year-old after Adama Traore’s snub.

The Wolves winger has been heavily linked with a move to North London, but eventually picked Barcelona, where he should replace Ousmane Dembélé.

Antonio Conte expected new signings in the January transfer window but has not yet welcomed any new face.

The former Inter and Juventus coach is always very demanding when it comes to transfers and has been pushing for new signings over the last few weeks.

“In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something,” he said last week.

“Also if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity but I think that we are in a situation where we have to try to implement the squad because the squad is not so big.”

Conte has only lost one of his first ten Premier League games in charge of Tottenham. Spurs have collected 21 points since the former Italy international was appointed in November.

  1. Aaaand another Conte and PL article – this is getting really boring. Please focus on Serie A and Italian football – it’s the reason we are on this site. Couldn’t care less what Conte is doing in England with Tottenham.

  2. That 60m pretty much constitutes Milan‘s entire spent this season. If even Spurs could pay that sort of money for just one player, how can we compete? No chance.

  3. Dear Frankie, I am sorry that you don’t care about it, but many other users do. At Football Italia, we follow Serie A football and the big names of Italian football abroad, including Conte. It has always been like this and will always be.

  4. @Lorenzo.

Here here. Conte is a top coach and a wonderful symbol for us! Probably just resentful Juve and Inter ‘fans’ not wanting to see him succeed. Same nonsense gets posted in response to Donnarumma articles.

  5. Lorenzo, there never used to be loads of Man City and Leicester stories on this site when Mancini and Ranieri were there. Conte is a very tenuous link to Italian football. Shall we have PSG, Chelsea stories because they have ONE italian player in their squad?
If Spurs were full of Italian players in addition to the coach it might make sense to have this story

  6. @Chris.

If an Italian player is playing abroad, then WE want to hear about it. Fortune or misfortune. If you don’t like the articles, you can always just ignore them?

  7. No, but if something happens with some of their Italian players we definitely report it. Check out the front pages of the Football Italia magazine back in the days, you’ll see how many stories about Italian players/coaches abroad you’ll find. Thanks for the polite conversation and for reading Football Italia.

  8. Yes keep articles on England as there is a momentum between Italy nd England since a few years now. Often times someone like Conte even speaks of Italy National Team etc, He even gets Del Piero visiting him, it’s important to keep that communication opened.

Also years ago in England pundits used to say about Italy “they just don’t have the players” they no longer say that since about +2 years as there is a newfound respect reciprocal too so vital to keep this opened as soccer has shifted to England and Italy. I feel Lukaka and Ronaldo should have stayed in Italy longer but they went to UK, you see it’s always that England-Italy synergy.
