Former Serie A stars Paolo Di Canio and Luca Marchegiani analyse Antonio Conte’s ‘worrying’ post-match interview after Napoli‘s loss to Hellas Verona.

Napoli suffered a shocking 3-0 loss to Verona on Sunday on Conte’s Serie A debut as the Partenopei boss.

The Italian tactician was highly disappointed and did not hide his frustration during post-match interviews.

“In previous days, he had spoken about the transfer window, but this time, he said something different: ‘We can even sign two, three or four players, but you can’t buy character and determination.’ What he said is even more worrying,” noted ex-Italian striker Di Canio during Sky Sport Italia’s post-match show on Sunday.

Marchegiani agreed: “Not only did he say ‘You can’t buy it,’ but he also said, ‘You can’t train it,’ which is even worse.”

What we learned from Conte’s first Serie A match in charge of Napoli

“We recognise that Conte has the ability to re-motivate the players,” continued Di Canio. “But when he says something like that, it gives you the idea of somebody who thinks: ‘Why did I even come here?’

But there’s even another problem, according to Marchegiani.

“The players’ characteristics do not match his demands,” said the former keeper.

“I think he needs two strikers playing close to each other, and Kvara struggles to play with another forward. The wing-backs are not exactly ideal, even if Conte decided to sign Spinazzola.”

  1. He shoulda known from the beginning. Napoli are obviously not on the same level with Rubentus, Chelsea & (forza) Inter. Not to mention ADL, he makes Lotitio like a saint.

  2. I don’t think he will last for 10 matches and that might be a good thing because after the first 10 matches then Napoli faces big teams back to back and that might end their season because there’s no way he’s winning even 50% of those first 10 matches. No way

  3. ADL should never have appointed Conte, and Conte himself needs to look at himself critically, and understand his ways of doing things cannot workout, all his past experiences at other clubs ended the way this one will end, he lacks respect , humility and honesty, he only thinks of buying buying buying, his gameplay is old boring, and uninspiring, he is not a matured Coach…
