Antonio Conte is trying to coax Italy international Lorenzo Insigne towards Tottenham Hotspur in January, claim reports, as his Napoli contract is running down.

The 30-year-old is the captain of his hometown club, who are currently challenging for the Serie A title and are in the Europa League play-offs.

However, his contract is due to expire in June 2022 and negotiations for an extension have been extremely difficult.

According to the Naples edition of Repubblica newspaper, Tottenham have set their sights on Insigne as a potential low-cost transfer swoop for the January window.

He will be a free agent in June and has been linked with Inter or Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, if he was to remain in Serie A.

Conte is believed to be an admirer of Insigne, and they worked together when Conte was on the Italy bench from 2014 to 2016.

However, Insigne only had six games under Conte, as he had a knee ligament injury in 2014.

Insigne has 53 senior caps for the Azzurri, contributing 10 goals and 10 assists.

4 thought on “Conte wants Napoli captain Insigne at Tottenham”
  1. Honestly who isn’t joining Spurs according to FI. Please just leave your job and work for an EPL organisation.

  2. I’m confused.
All the reports I’m reading today suggest we have no money to give Conte to buy ANYONE this January, which kinda makes everyone’s wants and wishes moot!

  3. Insigne will not last more than a few weeks in the EPL. Much too physical for him. And he won’t be given time on the ball he needs.

  4. Well, if Tottenham is on the cheap, Insigne is a good idea. However, don’t see this guy excelling at EPL.
