Tottenham boss Antonio Conte concedes ‘it’s always difficult’ to make new signings in January but insists Spurs ‘need to do something’ in the winter transfer window.

The former Inter and Juventus boss is still unbeaten in Premier League games in North London.

Spurs have collected 18 points in eight league games since the 52-year-old replace Nuno Espirito Santo in November.

However, Conte expects new signings from his club in January and made sure Spurs knew his point of view in his latest press conference.

Who are Tottenham’s transfer target mentioned by Conte in meeting with Paratici

“I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players,” he said as quoted by Football London.

“In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.

“Also if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity but I think that we are in a situation where we have to try to implement the squad because the squad is not so big.”

Several Serie A players have been linked with a move to Tottenham, from Franck Kessié to Stefan de Vrij. However, both Milanese sides are unlikely to sell their stars in the January transfer window.

Conte discusses Tottenham transfers: ‘I only asked for one player…’

Conte has always been a very demanding coach in terms of transfers and both Inter and Juventus fans know it well.

However, in a recent interview with Sportweek, he said that Romelu Lukaku was the only player he has ever asked for in his coaching career with his former club Inter that signed the Belgium international in 2019.
