Multiple Italian reports suggest Antonio Conte has given the all-clear to accepting the Manchester United job, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future is yet to be decided.

There had not been contact between the club and the Italian tactician until this evening, at which point Sportitalia and Sky Sport Italia both reported negotiations had begun.

They are still at a very early stage, but the crucial information given by Alfredo Pedullà and Gianluca Di Marzio is that Conte is willing to take over at Manchester United mid-season.

Man Utd contact Conte, but both parties still wary

He would usually resist the idea of accepting such a role, but the former Inter, Chelsea, Italy and Juventus boss believes he can turn things around.

However, despite the 5-0 Premier League home defeat to Liverpool, Manchester United owners the Glazers have not yet decided whether to sack Solskjaer.

His position remains relatively popular with the supporters, who remember his glory days at Old Trafford as a player.

Should they opt to fire Solskjaer, then Conte is in pole position.

According to Sportitalia, a three-year contract is discussed, worth €12m per season.

  1. Not sure how this will pan out. Maybe some league glory in a couple seasons … no European trophy of course. He’ll leave when they tell him they have to fill the budget back down to under a billion …

  2. It’s so sad, all these clubs keep taking turns to hire the same managers who have proven time and again they have the same tactics and are not adaptable no matter the years passed.

    Example:
Allegri is such a washed up dunce, yet instead of keeping faith with Pirlo for 1 more season, Juventus fired him and brought Allegri back. As if Allegri can do anything good anymore.

    Similarly with Conte, or Mourinho…

  3. @Pinturicchio I agree with you about Pirlo. He didn’t do all that badly and should have been given more time. I also agree with you on Mourinho. He’s been on a downward spiral for some time now. He’s hugely expensive, and worst of all, the only thing he appears good at nowadays is destroying the confidence of his players and killing the dressing room atmosphere.

Where I disagree with you is on Conte, and to a lesser degree, Allegri. Conte has clearly still got it. He’s done a fine job wherever he’s coached. He’s only 52, so it’s not like he’s some dinosaur. Allegri is not that much older, was very successful during his last stint at Juve. While I don’t like his tactics, I think it’s a little too early to cast judgement on his remarriage. Also, apart from Locatelli, it’s not as if the club has blessed him with top signings, unlike Solksjaer has seen an obscene amount of money spent on his side.

  4. Don’t give me that Conte crap! Who was the last coach to win a Champions League Final playing 3-5-2 ? i know Chelsea won a CL final playing a 5-4-1 but the last team to win a Champions League final playing 3-5-2 is Borussia Dortmund in 1997 ! it sucks in Europe !

He chased Del Piero, Quagliarella, Iaquinta, Diego Costa, and Icardi away……gee, i wonder if cr7 would be next ??
