Antonio Conte says his acquittal in a match-fixing trial was “good news” but “it doesn’t make me forget the last four years”.

The Italy CT was accused of failing to report a fix while in charge of Siena, but was acquitted by a court in Cremona this week.

“I definitely got good news, the acquittal is great news for me,” Conte acknowledged in today’s Press conference at Coverciano.

“If you ask me if it’s a story with a happy ending though, I have difficult answering ‘yes’.

“It will never be a happy ending, the acquittal doesn’t make me forget the past four years: the search of my house at 5am, television cameras in my house, the headlines in the newspapers, the broadcasts and the judgements.

“These are things which hurt me and my family, lasting situations that left their mark and that will remain indelible in my life.

“The only thing I never feared was the trial, because I wanted a judgement. I avoided the comfortable choices which would have led to the statute of limitations expiring.”

Conte will take over at Chelsea after the European Championships, but would not be drawn on the English side.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I work on things one at a time, and I try to deal with them in the best way.

“The Euros is the end of a two-year journey. I want to tackle this tournament in the best way, knowing the difficulties which we didn’t expect to face.

“I always talk about work, we’ll try to work with our head down and try to do something great.”
