Antonio Conte revealed in a press conference today that new Tottenham signing Dejan Kulusevski ‘has the potential to play wing back’, suggesting that he’s planning on transforming the player’s role.

For both Hellas Verona and Juventus, Kulusevski was deployed as a dynamic forward player, playing in both the number 8 and 10 roles. He is known for his good progressive carrying ability and ability to beat his man, and for these reasons Conte is apparently planning on doing a Victor Moses-like transformation on the young Swedish forward.

Conte offers his view on Tottenham’s new signings Bentancur and Kulusevski

The Italian coach most often deploys Spurs in either a 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 formation, and in these formations Kulusevski could be used as the right wing back. This would allow him to focus on his progressive play and ability to create shots, rather than looking to the Swede to find the back of the net himself.

The 21-year-old claimed upon joining the North London side that Conte was one of the reasons why he signed for the club, but in an interview two years ago he revealed that he chose Juventus over Inter due to the Italian coach’s tactics, so it remains to be seen if he is a fan of the idea of playing as a right wing back in the Premier League this season.

  1. Kulusevki can cross well and has a nice shot, but wing back? seriously?? I have never seen him make a tackle! He doesn’t seem aggressive, and wing back is one of the most physical and aggressive positions
