Inter coach Antonio Conte admitted the 2-0 win over Juventus ‘had great importance’ and claimed the Nerazzurri have done ‘extraordinary things’ in 2020-21.

The Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri have clashed three times already this term, as Juventus beat Inter over two games in the Coppa Italia.

Inter have picked up their 19th Scudetto and the first in 11 years, and Conte pointed out that the win over Juventus in Serie A at San Siro was a turning point for his men.

“It’s clear that, when you face the best, you have the possibility to understand you level,” Conte told InterTV. “Beating the team that have won the Scudetto nine years in a row and created a significant gap, had great importance for me, in terms of self-esteem, self-awareness.

“It could turn out to be a boomerang, to make ourselves presumptuous and excessively sure of our means but did well to capitalise on that game in the right way and continuing on our path.”

The Beneamata has continued with back-to-back wins over Sampdoria and Roma since clinching the title and Conte aims to further dent Juventus hopes of a place in the Champions League on Saturday.

But the former Juventus tactician said he had ‘predicted a tight’ battle and feels Inter have ‘done something unexpected’ this year.

“Honestly, I didn’t imagine that the balance of power could change so much after one round,” Conte continued. “I had predicted a very tight championship and it actually was, except for Inter, who took their own path and has reached the finish line.

“One team, ours, have done extraordinary things and have detached ourselves from the others. We have done something unexpected, also in terms of how it was done.”
