Conte: ‘I work at the top, it’s right that they pay me’

Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte said he does a ‘top job and it’s right that they pay me’ when asked about his high salary.

Conte was recently appointed the new coach at Spurs, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Italian tactician’s high salary was revealed at €18m a season by La Gazzetta dello Sport and his contracts have always been a hot topic, even during his time at Inter in recent years.

He left the club by mutual respect overt the summer and was asked by Le Iene about his financial situation in London.

“Is my salary like breaking the bank? I think the blow, a great blow, is done by whoever takes me,” Conte said.

“You do your job and it’s right that you do it well. I do mine at the top and it’s right that they pay me.”

On the targets at Tottenham, Conte stressed it’s a ‘challenge’ to bring Spurs back to the top four in England but aims to do well in England and Europe this term.

“Getting in to the top four will be a challenge,” Conte said. “The Premier League is very tough, we will try to give our best in every match and do well in the Conference League too.”

Conte picked up the Premier League title in his first year at Chelsea, after winning three Scudetti with Juventus.

He arrives after having won Serie A with Inter, the Nerazzurri’s first title in 11 years.
