Antonio Conte has paid his respect to former FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio, who died on Saturday: ‘It was nice to work together.’

Tavecchio hired Conte for Italy in 2014, months after his Juventus exit.

The Italian tactician remained in charge of the Azzurri for two years, winning 14 of his 24 games in charge and facing elimination in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Euros at the hands of Germany.

It was still an impressive campaign for the Azzurri, who beat Spain and Belgium during the tournament held in France.

“You’ve always been a football lover and you’ve always looked forward, offering your vision with passion,” Conte wrote in an Instagram story, posting a picture with Tavecchio.

“It was nice to work together, rest in peace president.”

Tavecchio died on Saturday morning, aged 79. He had been hospitalised a few days earlier due to lung problems.

He resigned as FIGC President in 2017 after Italy failed to qualify for Russia 2018 under Conte’s successor Giampiero Ventura. Tavecchio’s funeral was held on Monday morning in Ponte Lambro.
