Antonio Conte did not feel that the Premier League’s meeting yesterday was worth the effort.

A special meeting was called yesterday where Premier League coaches discussed players welfare and the fixture congestion, but little has changed as a result of the discussions.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference today, Conte gave his thoughts on yesterday’s meeting, saying ‘I have to be honest I think that it was a meeting where we tried to speak, and some coaches tried to speak and ask about solutions.

‘But I think that everything was decided. And I think yesterday was a wall, and for this reason also I don’t want to go into the discussions.’

When asked if he felt like the meeting was a waste of time, he said that ‘I think so. Because when you have a wall in front of you, you can ask and speak about what you want, but every decision was taken.’

The 52-year-old Italian coach touched on his concerns regarding player welfare and the current COVID situation, highlighting that ‘it is not easy for us, it is not easy for all the teams to play after only one day, it’s not simple. You have to manage the situation very well because of the risk of losing players to injuries.

‘We have to pay great attention, especially my team. Don’t forget we had half our squad with COVID. When you get COVID, then you have to live with this situation for two to three weeks after you are finished with COVID.

‘If there is someone that has a bit of fatigue, it will be very important to have a good chat with the players because we have to manage this period.’ He concluded.

Conte’s Tottenham will face Crystal Palace at 3pm UK time on Boxing Day before travelling to Southampton on December 28, giving him and the team less than 48 hours to recover.

Spurs currently sit 7th in the Premier League after 15 games, with the Italian coach immediately making an impact in London. The team haven’t lost in the Premier League since his appointment, drawing against Everton and Liverpool and securing wins over Leeds United, Brentford and Norwich City.
