Former Inter and Juventus coach Antonio Conte is reported to be among the candidates to replace Mikel Arteta if Arsenal sack him.

According to The Telegraph, the Spanish tactician has five games to turn the Gunners around, or the club’s board would sack him.

The Gunners had a tough start to the season with two defeats in the opening two Premier League games.

According to the paper, Conte is one of the candidates the Arsenal board considers in case Arteta face sacking.

The Italian tactician left Inter after two seasons at the club. He won the Scudetto in the 2020-21 campaign, but he rescinded his contract with Nerazzurri by mutual agreement due to different views regarding the club’s future and their transfer strategies in the summer.

Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku walked out of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza a few weeks after Conte, completing moves to PSG and Chelsea, respectively.

Conte explained his Inter exit in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport in June.

“What I can say is that my project never changed, but it would be nonsense to discuss this now,” he said.

“I don’t want to create controversy or talk about transfers. I respect Zhang and I thank him for choosing me. I love Inter, the club and their fans.”

In the same interview, he also spoke about his future: “Generally, I like the challenges and I’ve accepted many of them during my career,” the former Italy, Inter and Juventus coach added.

“Even the top clubs I coached were never the favourites when I arrived. However, if there’s something that doesn’t convince me, I prefer not to accept regardless of the money.”

  1. Definitely don’t see him going to Arsenal, even if they throw a king’s ransom at him. Would hurt his reputation as that club is a mess, and their transfer policy of buying overrated English players for more than double their worth will hurt them for many years to come. Incredible how much they’ve spent and ended up with an average squad in which the best players are youth products.

  2. this fake news. why would conte accept arsenal if he rejecting tottenham before.
arsenal not suit his style. saka, martinelli, pepe, odengaard wont play for him. he like 3-5-2 and they dont fit into that formation. not to mention arsenal only has 2 players for wingbacks. its almost career suicide.
