Sky Sport Italia now report Antonio Conte is in ‘advanced’ negotiations to become the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Conte is a free agent after terminating his contract with Inter by mutual consent, just days after securing their first Serie A title in a decade.

He was not prepared to remain at San Siro with the club in financial difficulty and cuts made on both the transfer market and in their wages.

As part of the termination agreement, Conte is barred from taking over another Italian club during the 2021-22 season.

He has therefore been looking abroad and was in talks with Real Madrid, but it’s reported Florentino Perez and the players were against the idea.

PSG were also an option, but a return to the Premier League was always likely after he won the title with Chelsea.

Conte now seems very close to taking the Spurs job, replacing Jose Mourinho, who was fired last month.

Mourinho, in turn, has moved to Roma for next term.

Conte might not be the only Italian at Tottenham, as the club has also been linked with former Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici.
