The deadline was April 7 to confirm they could host the three group games plus one quarter-final in June and July.
However, while the Government did say it was open to finding a protocol for fans at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, the CTS (technical scientific committee) warned it was ‘impossible’ to guarantee that now.

“We want to get back on track as soon as possible, but it takes time to plan things out, starting with the Euros, which begin in circa 60 days,” Malagò told Radio 2.
“While some events we can be sure will go ahead with or without a crowd, in this case there is a diktat from UEFA – which is more or less elegantly put – that demands fans.
“The problem is saying today that we can guarantee there will be access for members of the public to the stadium.”
Dublin risk losing their games because presence of fans cannot be guaranteed and it remains to be seen if Rome will be stripped of their hosting duties as well.
Rome is set to host not only four games, but above all the opening Euro 2020 ceremony on June 11.
