Gianluigi Buffon congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for his ‘umpteenth career record’ after the Juventus talisman scored his 760th goal.

The Portuguese striker scored in the 2-0 win over Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday and thus broke the record of Josef Bican, who had 759 official goals, according to Opta.

The Czech FA has since challenged the record and claims Bican scored 821 goals in his career, meaning Ronaldo would be 62 goals away from breaking the record.

Buffon posted a photo on Instagram and joked he could have ‘spared’ him a few of the goals.

“You could have spared me a couple of goals,” Buffon wrote. “Anyway, congratulations for your umpteenth career record. CR…760!”

Ronaldo replied: “Thanks, legend!”
